If you look at your car like you look at your database, you might not be going anywhere for the holidays…. Your data, is ever changing, and growing and evolving, but who monitors it as it grows from a small bug to a beautiful butterfly? Know Informatics, the Development and DBA part of LOEC is introducing a DB server monitoring service.
What does it entail?
Each morning we will send a mail, like the one below to you (if you want) and ourselves. It should tell us that everything is still purring along like a kitten, or if something has changed, or is not working. In our experiences, things can lie unnoticed for a prolonged amount of time, and then have a massive impact on business.
We will generate a task daily, making sure we expect your mail allowing us to question why we didn’t get it, and if we got it why something is off, or failing, and address it with you before it becomes an issue for your business. In addition, it will show us how fragmented your databases are, making it easy to spot when we need to do a little maintenance (you have been driving this SQL car without an odo till now…) and tell us how your full, or empty your drives are making sure SQL has the space it needs to do its job, as well as showing when the last SDQL backup was made, and where to, so that we all can rest assured that in the event of an emergency we have something recent to fall back on.

You can probably download free tools to monitor your server for you, but we have seen that if you do not task an individual that knows what he is looking at (we have been looking at SQL servers since 2002) ,to look at it every day, monitoring just becomes another mail in your inbox.
If you are interested, we will be billing you only R500.00 Excl per month for this service for one SQL instance, R 350 for 2 or R 300 for 3 or more.
For any enquirers or questions feel free to pop Jannie (jg@knw.za.net) or Endy (endy.ukhurebor@loec.co.za) a mail, or chat to us on Skype like many of you do already.
